Course Description
This presentation will discuss the importance of the Occupational Therapist’s role when advocating for digital accessibility in the workplace and community. The speakers will introduce 2 important pieces of legislation at the state and federal level as well as guidelines for implementing them into one’s practice. Tools, tips, and examples will be discussed on how the OT practitioner can be an active advocate in ensuring access to healthcare, education and training for clients in all practice settings.
Speakers
Rachel Gramig
Rachel has been an Occupational Therapist for 15 years, specializing in Neuro Rehabilitation, Ergonomic Assessment/Training, and Assistive Technology Services. She provides Assistive Technology Services to Students and Employees at Colorado State University and strives to ensure equitable access to Higher Education and Occupation through AT. She also owns her own business, ArtGonomics, where she provides ergonomic consultation, injury prevention education/training, and wellness services to artists and musicians. In addition to her work as an OT, Rachel is a musician and an avid outdoorsperson.
Melabie Eddington
Melanie Eddington is an occupational therapist at Colorado State University’s Assistive Technology Resource Center. Her work focuses on inclusive learning environments and AT tools that support equitable access to higher education. She is particularly interested in universal design and using assistive technology to support diverse neuro populations. Before becoming an OT, Melanie worked in the non-profit world, focusing on education and sustainable agriculture.
