Modernizing Your Scope of Practice Lesson


Course Description

This session will explore the recent successes of the Nebraska Occupational Therapy Association in modernizing their scope of practice. Strategies used to engage relevant stakeholders throughout the multi-year process will be discussed. Lessons learned and outcomes achieved will be shared with occupational therapy professionals interested in exploring modernizing their own state scope of practice.

Speakers

Melissa Kimmerling, EdD, MOT, OTR/L

Melissa Kimmerling is an occupational therapist in Nebraska. She has served in a variety of professional roles including Nebraska Representative to the Representative Assembly of AOTA (2016-2019), Vice President of Policy and Advocacy for the Nebraska Occupational Therapy Association (2019-2023), and the Nebraska Representative to the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (2022-present). She is now serving as the task force lead for the Nebraska OT Association’s scope of practice project.
