How to Overcome Obstacles to Carryover in Pediatric Therapy Lesson

Course Description

Home carryover is often one of the biggest barriers to meaningful progress in pediatric therapy. This session will examine the practical barriers that commonly interfere with carryover and discuss strategies to improve participation, adherence, and family engagement. The session will offer practical ideas clinicians can apply immediately to improve carryover and increase effectiveness of pediatric interventions. This session will also explore a hybrid model of pediatric therapy in which therapists extend their impact beyond direct visits by monitoring home programs between sessions, supporting family follow-through while creating an additional revenue opportunity tied to ongoing clinical oversight.

Objectives

Speaker

Bethany Darragh, MS, OTR/L

BETHANY DARRAGH is a pediatric occupational therapist who partners with families to support meaningful participation, independence, and improved quality of life for children. In her clinical work, she has seen firsthand the barriers that often limit carryover between therapy sessions and how those gaps can slow progress toward functional goals.

Bethany is particularly focused on improving home program adherence and strengthening family engagement as key drivers of therapeutic outcomes. She is the cofounder of Theralinq, a platform designed to help clinicians extend their impact beyond the clinic by improving consistency, clarity, and follow-through of home programming.

Through her clinical experience and systems-level work, Bethany is interested in practical, immediately applicable strategies that help therapists improve carryover and explore sustainable models of care that expand support for families between visits.
